Front suspension and steering parts
Front suspension and steering parts—This is the passenger (right) side front suspension parts taken from the under side. It is the same situation on the driver side.
Nikhil - Thanks for this picture and labeling. I have a Maruti 800 (2006 model). The question I have is that the bushing at the "rack and pinion" label is torn and I can see the grease through it. Do you recommend that I get it fixed ASAP or can drive around (short to medium distance -- 250kms radius) without having to worrying about fixing it right away?
Or am I in grave danger for causing more damage (That can be controlled).
A D Brotha- I sugest REPLACE THE BUSHINGS ITS NOT COSTLY .If bushings not replaced it will cause wearing action as explained below:-
The rack shaft is supported in the housing by bushings at each end of the housing.Wear takes in bushings and the rack shaft bearing surface where it comes into contact with the bushings. The housing in most cases will be allright unless it is bent ,cracked, or severely rusted. The bushings that the rack shaft rides on can be knocked out with a long punch or steel shaft. These bushings are pressed in originally with a one thousand interference fit and they can be stubborn about surrendering their positions. The bushings are dimpled on the inside surface. The dimples are little pockets where the lubricant can well.
